ABBA have called on Dolce & Gabbana to design outfits for their digital ABBAtars to wear during their ‘Voyage’ shows.
According to The Sun, the luxury Italian fashion house has worked on a number of looks for the four-piece’s London shows, which begin in May.
A concert insider said: “Dolce & Gabbana got on board really early on in the process and this has been years in the making.
“It is one of a handful of designers who worked on the costumes, which were stitched together before being digitised by the experts at Industrial Light and Magic, who are behind the shows.
“It was really important that every thread moves on stage as it would do if it was being worn by a real person, so the meticulous process has taken ages, but the results are incredible.”
The show is set to feature 20 songs – including I Still Have Faith in You and Don’t Shut Me Down from their No. 1 comeback album ‘Voyage’ – and will also see the ABBAtars talk to the crowd.
There’s also speculation that Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad could reunite for the opening night, with Björn previously admitting: “It’s such a privilege. No artist has ever experienced that. There you are on stage, and yet you’re able to see it and feel it. I really look forward to that.”
In a review of the album, Retro Pop called ‘Voyage’ “a fitting closing chapter in the tale of Sweden’s best-loved musical export”.
‘Voyage’ is available on CD, vinyl and cassette.
