ABBA’s new album ‘Voyage’ has topped album charts in 17 countries worldwide.
The group’s first record since 1981’s ‘The Visitors’ has surpassed sales of 1 million copies after topping the UK Albums Chart during its first week of release.
It marked ABBA’s 10th number one album and it has also become the fastest-selling UK album of 2021 so far – with the biggest first week sales in four years – along with the fastest-selling vinyl release of the century.
New data has also revealed the album has topped the charts in 17 different countries and has received more than 190 million combined streams to date.
“We are so happy that our fans seem to have enjoyed our new album as much as we enjoyed making it,” said the group in a statement.
“We are absolutely over the moon to have an album at the top of the charts again.”
Meanwhile, ABBA’s ‘Gold’ compilation has this week hit a new milestone, reaching the landmark BRIT Certified 20x Platinum in the UK.
‘Gold’ debuted at No. 1 in September 1992 and is the UK’s second best-selling album of all time, behind Queen’s greatest hits album.
“Gold going 20x Platinum is an extraordinary achievement and shows – along with the great success of Voyage’ – just how well-loved ABBA are and how their enduring appeal truly spans generations,” said British Phonographic Industry (BPI)’s Rob Crutchley.
ABBA will continue their comeback with the release of holiday single Little Things on December 3.
In a review of the album, Retro Pop called ‘Voyage’ “a fitting closing chapter in the tale of Sweden’s best-loved musical export”.
‘Voyage’ is available on CD, vinyl and cassette.
