“It is with great regret to confirm Aaron Carter was found unresponsive this a.m. in his home in Palmdale, CA,” representatives told Page Six.

“The family has been notified and will be flying out to Los Angeles. Aaron worked very hard towards the end of his life in recovery, to be a good father and to make amends with his family.”

The younger brother of Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter found fame in the late 1990s and released a string of hit singles and albums, including the UK Top 10s Crush on You and Crazy Little Party Girl.

Having first appeared in the spotlight as a supporting act for the boy band, his self-titled debut (1997) sold more than one-million copies worldwide and follow-up ‘Aaron’s Party (Come Get It)’ (2000) was a mega-hit in America and went on to become his most successful release.

On the back of the LP, he toured with Britney Spears on the ‘Oops!… I Did It Again Tour’ and starred regularly on Nickelodeon, on shows including ‘Lizzie McGuire’.

Over the course of his career, released five albums – including his most recent comeback effort, ‘LØVË’, in 2018.

Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss, but the truth is that addiction and mental illness are the real villains here. I will miss my brother more than anyone will ever know. I love you baby brother. pic.twitter.com/jqo9T0DnnQ

Following news of his passing, the singer’s brother Nick took to social media to share an emotional tribute, writing alongside a selection of photos of the siblings: “My heart is broken. Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded.

“I have always held on to the hope that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed.”

He added: “Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss, but the truth is that addiction and mental illness are the real villains here. I will miss my brother more than anyone will ever know. I love you baby brother.”

Aaron is survived by his son Prince, who he welcomed in November 2020.
