He took on his own hit, A-ha’s classic Take on Me, and still managed to fool the judges of the hit ITV singing contest.
But it was the studio audience who voted Morten Harket as the latest contestant to be eliminated from The Masked Singer UK.
Before his final performance on Saturday night’s episode, he said in his VT: “As for my identity, I’m never going to give it up.
“Vikings might have been around for millennia, but my career has been one of billions – it was over a billion people that watched me do my thing.
“I rely on tools that I was born with, and tools that I create.”
Previous performances of Fleetwood Mac’s Songbird and Harry Styles’ Watermelon Sugar led to guesses of Tom Jones, Ricky Wilson, Rick Astley and Brian Cox – but this week eagle-eyed viewers took to social media to assert Viking’s identity was Morten.
In a dedicated thread on Reddit, one penned: “If Viking is indeed Morten Harket, then he just flat out trolled the audience/judges by PERFORMING HIS OWN GODDAMNED SONG…”
Meanwhile, another shared a clip of A-Ha performing a live version of Take One Me from MTV Unplugged, insisting: “It’s too close to be a coincidence!”
“This is Morten Harket singing an acoustic version of Take On Me and it is the exact same voice,” insisted another.
Saturday’s episode also saw funnyman Lenny Henry eliminated from the show – which saw singers Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Mel B, and Martine McCutcheon, Glenn Hoddle and John Thomson eliminated in previous weeks.
The Masked Singer airs Saturdays on ITV.
