Britpop group Shed Seven could land their second No. 1 album of 2024 this week.
The band – who topped the charts earlier this year with their sixth album ‘A Matter Of Time‘, giving them their first No. 1 – are currently celebrating their 30th anniversary with album of orchestral reworkings of their biggest hits.
Titled ‘Liquid Gold’, it’s gone down a treat with fans and according to the first look at this week’s midweeks, could debut atop this week’s countdown.
The York group’s record is currently 600 chart units ahead of closest rivals Bring Me The Horizon, whose seventh LP ‘POST HUMAN: NeX GEn’ is at No. 2. Originally released back in May, it’s new physical formats that have propelled the rockers to a new peak on this week’s rundown.
Billed as a loving tribute to their 30-year journey as recording artists, ‘Liquid Gold’ boasts 12 songs spanning the York group’s repertoire, including the new song All Roads Lead To You, marking the latest addition to the band’s storied discography.
Frontman Rick Witter says: “‘This year we celebrate 30 years as recording artists and after reminiscing about our career we thought we’d celebrate the milestone by revisiting some key songs from our past. The idea being that if we cherry picked a hatful of songs and recorded them now it would be a coherent stroll down memory lane but also sit sonically beside our recent No. 1 album ‘A Matter Of Time’. A logical next step.
“We see this record as a gateway into the world of Shed Seven. We also felt that adding an orchestra to each track would lend the whole project a unique slant. The songs have become widescreen, full of colour.”
He adds: “The original recordings will always hold a special place in our hearts but re-recording the chosen songs was an exciting prospect for us. It’s a gift from the band to our loyal supporters, and will hopefully introduce some golden moments throughout our career to a whole new audience. Enjoy, and here’s to the next 30 years!”
