Ahead of their UK tour, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD) have released Kleptocracy as the latest single from ‘Bauhaus Staircase’.
A rare protest song from the duo, the track will be released on limited edition 7” and 12” vinyl, and CD single, on March 22.
“This is the most political song that we have ever recorded,” says Andy McCluskey. “The band believes that democracy is the only legitimate way to balance different opinions and create a functioning representative government.
“Sadly, we are living through times that see us ruled by thieves and flagrant liars. Democracy has been subverted by Kleptocracy.”

‘Bauhaus Staircase’ is the crowning achievement of OMD’s desire to be both Stockhausen and ABBA, born from the impetus to kickstart new explorations during the pandemic.
As Andy admits: “I rediscovered the creative power of total boredom.”
“I’m very happy with what we’ve done on this record,” he adds of the 12-track record. “I’m comfortable if this is OMD’s last statement.”
In a review of the album, RETROPOP praised ‘Bauhaus Staircase’ for being “strikingly fresh, current and relevant while remaining undisputedly timeless”, calling the end result “among the finest work of their 45-year career”.
