Coldplay frontman Chris Martin says eco-friendly touring makes “business sense” as the band’s global ‘Music Of The Spheres’ trek continues.

The run has seen the band cut direct emissions by 50 per cent by using 100 per cent renewable energy, having solar installations at every venue, and energy-generating exercise bikes and kinetic dance floors to turn fans’ movement into power.

Speaking to Ellie Goulding on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme on Thursday (December 28), Martin opened up on the benefits of their approach, insisting: “What we’re trying to do is actually not advocate at all, but just prove that it makes business sense because that’s where we feel you’ll really get people to change, like ‘Hey you can make more money’.”

“Most people, if they have the luxury of being able to care about it, care about it,” he added of widespread environmental concerns, adding that the group is keen to demonstrate that being green isn’t “some charitable, left-wing, wishy-washy thing, it’s like, ‘No, no, this is the best business sense, too’.”

To date, the group’s latest run has hit South America, the United States, the UK and more, with shows across Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand planned for 2024.

In addition to their forthcoming shows, work continues on the band’s new LP, ‘Moon Music’, and they recently put out a call on social media for fans to send in clips of their vocals for inclusion.

“Hello everybody. We hope you are all ok in these wild times,” they penned. “We have nearly finished Moon Music. If you’d like to be on it too, perhaps you could add your voice to a song called One World. (We would love that a lot.)

“All you have to do is record yourself singing ‘Ahhhhh’ for a few seconds at oneworld.coldplay.com (link in bio). You can either copy the note on the site, or sing a G or C in any octave. Thankyou so much. Love, Chris, Guy, Will and Jonny.”

Chris Martin and co. first spoke of their new LP last January, confirming the record is a continuation of their hit 2021 album.

“We’re finishing an album called ‘Moon Music’, which is the second ‘Music Of The Spheres’ volume, but that won’t come out for a little bit,” Martin told Canada’s City News.

“We might start playing some songs at some point this year.”
