Missy Elliott is working on new music with Timbaland with a view to release the tracks this summer.
The rapper hasn’t released a studio album since 2005’s ‘The Cookbook’ but according to her former Swing Mob collaborator, she’s in the process of readying fresh material.
He told Variety: “We’ve got a lot of songs we’re going to start recording soon, and my dream is to have it out around her birthday in July.
“I know how Missy works: It’s got to be new and fun – or maybe not so much new as underground, and everything is upbeat.”
Timbaland hinted some of Missy’s new songs may also have a “Latin feel” in the vein of Bad Bunny and describing the direction as “underground Brazilian funk”.
“People gonna eat it up – and it might just reach a different demographic of people. It’s like her doing… not Reggaeton but Missy-ton,” he continued.
Back in December, Missy opened up on Twitter about how she and Timbaland originally started their partnership, penning: “My 1st album was stress-free because I didn’t have any expectations.
“My label told me they would give me my own label If I did 1 album so me & @Timbaland completed this album in two weeks not knowing this would be the beginning of many more to come.”
The hitmaker recently returned to the UK charts with her FLO collaboration Fly Girl, with the track giving the trio their first Top 40 hit.
