B*Witched are back with their brand new single Birthday.
Coinciding with the 25th anniversary of their self-titled debut album (1998) – featuring the global smash hit C’est La Vie – the track reunites the four-piece with original collaborator Ray Hedges for the first time in over two decades.
Announcing the release on International Women’s Day, the band said: “What better day to announce we have a new single out Friday. We are so excited for you guys to hear it…”
Speaking exclusively about their new music in the April 2023 edition of RETROPOP, B*Witched confirmed they have various tracks on the go, with plans to release their first album in more than two decades!
“We will get to the point of an album. Right now we’re releasing singles, but the singles will keep coming and eventually they’ll be on the album,” Edele revealed, with Lindsay adding: “We’re in the creative process at the moment and we played another one of the new songs [Kings Horses] when we toured with Blue, so there’s definitely more in the pipeline.
“It really is so lovely,” she said of being back with the girls and working on new material. “Even initially, when we started having these chats and talking about the creative possibilities and everything, I really felt the magic and the dynamic between us, which is quite rare. It definitely does feel like no time has passed at all…”
Launching in 1998, the group climbed to the top of the UK charts with their debut single before making waves overseas and landing their first Top 10 hit in the US.
Follow-ups Rollercoaster, To You I Belong and Blame It On The Weatherman all hit No. 1 in the UK, making it a full house from their debut LP.
A second album, ‘Awake and Breathe’ (1999), followed, featuring the Top 10 hit Jesse Hold On along with I Shall Be There and Jump Down, before the group split in 2002 and went their separate ways.
Having reunited in 2012 for ‘The Big Reunion’, Birthday marks the band’s first collaboration with Ray since the nineties.
