Speaking in Retro Pop’s November 2022 cover feature the star – real name Alison Clarkson – opened up about returning to the spotlight, admitting: “I decided that I wanted to make the record because I hit a big birthday, let’s say. I thought, ‘If I don’t do it now, I’ll never do it’.
“I’d been putting it off and putting it off. I’d been doing the festivals and things like that, and it’s good performing your old stuff, but there comes a point where you go, ‘There must be something fresh in me!’”
Having supported the release with a string of hit radio singles and a launch gig at London’s Lafayette, the 24 Hours singer is thrilled to be back.
“I’ve been away for such a long time and you just don’t know if you’re gonna be accepted or not,” she shared. “Especially as a woman, the first thing people think is, ‘Oh, what does she look like?’ It’s really terrible. But overall, it’s been 100 per cent positive and I’m absolutely thrilled.”
In a review of the album, Retro Pop called ‘Boomerang’ the perfect comeback, writing: “The essence of Betty Boo is alive and well, and on hand to spread a little much-needed joy into the world today.”
‘Boomerang’ is available now.
