Blue have released the slick ballad Magnetic as the latest single from their new album ‘Heart & Soul’.
The LP marks the group’s return to the studio after seven years and coincides with their 20th anniversary celebrations.
Harkening back to classic ballads such as If You Come Back and Breathe Easy, the group explain: “We’ve never done an album where it’s just one style of music the whole way through and I think we’ve accomplished that again with this album.
“Magnetic shows off all our different vocal styles and we love a ballad just as much as our uptempo tracks!
“We can’t wait for everyone to hear the album, we are so proud of it,” they share.
It follows previous singles Haven’t Found You Yet – co-written by Antony Costa – and the boy band’s cover of 112’s Dance With Me.
Speaking in Retro Pop’s October 2022 issue, the group open up about their comeback and reveal the LP has been a long time coming.
“With the 20th anniversary looming, we wanted to do something for the fans and put something new out there, although the plan was never to do an album,” says Duncan James. “The plan was to do a single or an EP at the most.
“We tried to do all this a couple of years ago, but then obviously Covid happened and kind of ruined the plan. The whole world had to put everything on pause, didn’t it?”
In December, the group will embark on a UK arena tour in support of the project, and Simon Webbe can’t wait to celebrate two decades of success with fans across the country.
“I’m excited about all the nostalgia from the crowd about the old songs too, taking them back in time, putting on a great show and proving we’re still passionate about what we do,” he beams.
“We still get the same buzz from performing live. Even when you’re feeling tired, to go on stage and sing a song from 20 years ago and people still love it is such a great feeling.
“After the show I always say to the others, ‘We haven’t got a bad job have we, boys?’”
‘Heart and Soul’ is out October 28 and available to pre-order now.
