Released: March 25
Suzanne Vega strips back her best-loved recordings on her ‘Close-Up’ series of albums, available on vinyl for the first time.
Beginning in 2010, the star began revisiting cuts from her three-decade career with a more organic approach, stripping the songs of their original production and cutting to the core of her lyrics.
While reinterpreting the tracks in an intimate, more personal setting, she also rearranged them by theme, allowing longtime fans and new listeners to rediscover them out of their original contexts.
As with any project of this nature, the recordings will be divisive among fans, but even for those who prefer the tracks the first time around, this stunning release is hard to resist.
The beautifully packaged and designed bookpack includes the ‘Close-Up’ albums Volumes 1-4, each as a different colour 180g heavyweight vinyl LP.
It also contains a 28-page booklet featuring a foreword by the artist, a brand new essay by Lenny Kaye and the full lyrics for each song.
Now if only her classic albums could get the same treatment…
‘Close-Up Series Volumes 1-4’ is out now.
