The Pussycat Dolls’ reunion tour has been cancelled.
The group had been set to hit the road in 2020 but, amid the pandemic, put the trek on hold with no alternative dates announced.
Band member Kimberly Wyatt previously insisted the tour would still go ahead in September this year, but in an Instagram statement Nicole Scherzinger confirmed the plans had fallen through.
“Thank you to everyone who had tickets to see PCD — we are so appreciative of your support and loyalty,” she penned.
“With the ever evolving circumstances surrounding the pandemic, I understand the decision that the tour dates had to be cancelled.
“I have invested a huge amount of time, creative energy and my own finances into bringing this project back to life, and while I’m naturally incredibly saddened by this decision, I am also very proud of what we were able to achieve in the short amount of time we had together before COVID.
“I can’t put into words the amount of love, admiration and gratitude I have for the other girls in the group, and the fans that have supported us.
“Stay safe and healthy – Love and blessings.”
Fans were devastated by the news – and they weren’t the only ones, with Carmit Bachar and Jessica Sutta claiming they weren’t told about the cancellation either.
In a joint statement, they wrote: “Either way, it seems as though it’s the end of a chapter to an incredible, life altering experience filled with some awesome memories that we will forever be grateful for.
“To the fans, we love you. Trust us, this is not the outcome we had hoped for.
“We wanted it as much as you because we appreciate you all so much and it hurts our hearts you had to wait so long for an answer, but unfortunately it’s out of our control.”
Kimberly and Ashley Roberts are yet to respond to the cancellation.
It comes after the group was shrouded in legal issues when founder Robin Antin sued Nicole Scherzinger over allegations she wanted complete control over the future of the band.
According to papers filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, Robin and Nicole came to a deal for a reunion tour and a new Pussycat Dolls business venture in late 2019.
While the Stuckwitchu singer originally agreed to receive 49 per cent of potential earnings, Robin says Nicole now “refuses to participate in the tour” and has “demanded to renegotiate the terms” of their agreement.
However, in response to the filing, Nicole’s lawyer claimed it’s a “desperate attempt to divert blame for her own failures by trying to impose obligations on Nicole that simply do not exist”.
“Nicole loves and respects the PCD fans and hopes to one day be back on stage performing the group’s amazing hits for them,” they added. “Sadly, this will not happen under these circumstances.”
