Spandau Ballet are working on a brand new stage musical.
Bassist Martin Kemp spoke with NME, while promoting his and brother Martin’s new mockumentary The Kemps: All True, which will air on BBC2 this week.
When asked whether there’ll ever be a Spandau Ballet biopic, he answered: “Well, we already did a feature-length music documentary Soul Boys of the Western World, in 2014, which covered the whole story.
“We had been working on a stage musical but that came crashing down on us a few months ago because of Covid-19,” he teased. “As soon as we get over this, we’ll pick it up again.
“There’s a script and it’s a nice musical, so hopefully we can push forward with it and see where it goes.”
It isn’t clear whether the show is going to be biographical or a jukebox musical… or both.
Meanwhile, Martin’s brother, lead guitarist Gary Kemp, recently expressed his hope that Spandau Ballet could reunite with Tony Hadley in the future.
