Released: 30 July 2021
London Boys’ first three studio albums are brought back to life with ‘Requiem: The London Boys Story’.
The duo dominated the charts in the late ‘80s with hits like Harlem Desire, Requiem and the UK No. 2 single London Nights, but their career was tragically cut short when Edem Ephraim and Dennis Fuller were killed in a car crash in January 1996.
Marking 25 years since the tragedy, the pair’s eurodance classics have been revived and remastered for the new release from Cherry Red Records, featuring ‘The Twelve Commandments of Dance’, ‘Sweet Soul Music’ and ‘Love 4 Unity’, alongside a selection of remixes and instrumentals.
The albums themselves are featured in full, with their debut and most successful LP featuring three bonus tracks, along with a second dedicated disc of alternate takes and remixes.
It’s accompanied by a second disc, titled ‘Dance! Dance! Dance!’, of mixes from across the London Boys’ three, along with Gospel Train to London, the lead single from the pair’s fourth album ‘Hallelujah Hits’ (released as New London Boys).
Sadly, that album isn’t included in the latest release, which doesn’t detract from the quality of what’s featured, but stands out as a glaring omission.
With extensive liner notes and a brand new, 2021 interview with writer/producer Ralf-René Maué, ‘Requiem’ is a worthy addition to London Boys’ legacy – it’s just unfortunate, for fans and collectors, that ‘Requiem’ stops short of telling the whole story.
‘Requiem: The London Boys Story’ is out now.
