Cher treated a group of friends to an impromptu performance of ABBA’s Fernando as she saw in 2021.
The Goddess of Pop has been in the UK for a number of weeks after travelling to Islamabad to help free Kavaan – “the world’s loneliest elephant” – via her Free The Wild foundation, and celebrated New Year in England.
In clips shared on social media, Cher is seen with pals celebrating the holidays in suitably festive surroundings – with the Believe hitmaker even enjoying a visit from Santa Claus himself.
Alongside footage, posted by the singer’s friend Masha Adonyeva, showing Cher toasting the new year and enjoying cocktails and canapés, she also sings the classic hit – which she performed in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and released on her 2018 album, Dancing Queen.
“Happy New Year,” wrote Masha beneath the video, before quoting the song’s lyrics.
“There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, Fernando!”
Cher recently confirmed she has new music coming in 2021 – and while she didn’t reveal any further details, she admitted her 27th album could be her last.
“I’m just recording an album now… This might be my last album,” she told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour.
“I feel like Tony Bennett and Betty White. But it could be my last album.”
