Kylie Minogue was brought to tears after hearing Say Something for the first time.
The star released the track as the lead single from her 15th LP DISCO earlier this summer, and she tells heat magazine she felt an instant connection to the track.
“I cried when I heard it earlier this year,” she says. “I remember listening to it and just being very teary and calling my producer going, ‘This song is just…’
“It’s saying more than we’re saying. Like, there’s a lot of room for interpretation in that song,” explains the Magic singer. “It’s about love and everyone having the capacity for love.
“It’s not as easy to describe as, ‘OK, everyone’s on the dance floor, there’s a full moon and we’re all dancing.'”
It’s not just Kylie who was affected by the track – she believes its universal theme will have struck a chord for a lot of people
“For me it’s about the eternal quest for love and not necessarily a relationship love. Just love for love’s sake,” adds the pop legend. “We are all different, but that is pretty much a common desire or need and a longing. And it is endless.
“I was so glad the landscape for the video was galactic because that’s how I feel about love – where does it begin? Where does it end? Your family love, your romantic love, your love for life…”
DISCO became Kylie’s eighth chart-topping album in the UK and was a record breaker for the star, who is the first female artist to bag a No. 1 album across five consecutive decades – the ’80s, ’90s, ’00s, ’10s and ’20s.
In our review of the album, Retro Pop said DISCO is “packed with upbeat, care-free ’70s inspired dance music – and, frankly, that’s just what we needed right now”.
