ZAYN has shared details of his new studio album, ‘Konnakol’, due this spring.
The former One Direction star’s fifth solo outing arrives on April 17, with its lead single ‘Die For Me’ – which was performed as part of his recent run of Las Vegas shows – due for release this Friday (February 6).
The concerts also saw the ‘Pillowtalk’ hitmaker debut a further four songs: ‘Nusrat’, ‘Used To The Blues’, ‘Fatal’ and ‘Take Turns’.
Speaking about the new album, Malik says: “It’s that time again, I have been lucky enough to make a fifth studio album…‘Konnakol’ in its definition is the act of creating percussive sounds with one’s voice but what it means to me lies somewhere much deeper.
“It is a sound that holds the reverberation of a time before words existed. I have always drawn on my heritage for inspiration since I first started making my own music – this album is a development of that understanding, knowing more now than ever, who I am, where I come from and where I intend to go.”
A press release describes the LP as being “pop-forward” album and the musician’s “most culturally inspired project to date.”
“The snow leopard, a profound symbol in South Asia, on the album art showcases how deeply his heritage has inspired the record,” it continues.
The snow leopard imagery first appeared at Malik’s recent Las Vegas residency which, paired with a ‘Z5’ listening booth experience, led several fans to correctly predict his new era was imminent.
A tracklist for the album has yet to be revealed.
