Vengaboys are revisiting their late ‘90s heyday with a cover of Charli XCX and Troye Sivan’s 2018 hit 1999.
The new single is out now across digital platforms and marks the group’s first music since their first new recording since their 2019 ‘Unplugged #1’s’ single.
Speaking about the new track, which is retitled 1999 (I Wanna Go Back), singer Kim Sasabone tells The Sun: “We released some stuff a while ago but it wasn’t good enough. But it feels different this time.
“The whole idea came from Charli XCX. She spoke about us in interviews a couple of years ago then there was a headline saying, ‘Can Charli XCX bring Vengaboys back?’
“We were already touring but we hadn’t made a hit record in years so we decided, let’s do that! So we borrowed her song.”
Vengaboys’ last full-length project ‘Xmas Party Album! was released in 2014.
