V V Brown is back with Black British – her first new music in eight years.

Marking the singer-songwriter’s long-awaited follow-up to her third studio album ‘Glitch’ (2015), the track tackles themes of identity and independence and is accompanied by a visual conceived, created, and produced by the hitmaker.

V V Brown teases ‘full circle’ new music: ‘Really itching to make a pop record’

V V Brown – Am I British Yet?

“The last six years have been a difficult mental health journey for me,” she said. “But I came to the realisation that I need music to feel alive.”

Having teased her return to music on social media and with a new album on the way, Brown credited living in the countryside for “liberating” and allowing her “to create without that industry pressure.”

“Everything about this album, whether it be the artwork, the lyrics, the production or the visuals, is about starting sociological conversations.”

“Art should make you feel, whether that’s feeling uncomfortable, empowered, happy, sad, scared, inspired. There is a radical power in the role of the provocateur and this was one of the motives for this record.”

Listen to Black British below.

The ‘Black British’ project will “combine the medium of essay writing and journalism” and alongside the new material, Brown will publish an essay exploring her idea of being Black British and providing social commentary on her ethnicity and subculture.

The release of new material also sees Brown return to the stage for her first live performance, ‘V V Brown: An Intimate Musical Experience’, in over 10 years.

Taking place at The Lower Third on May 23, tickets are on sale now.
