Toni Braxton confirmed she’s been asked to take part in the Apple Music/Instagram lives stream Verzuz series – but she’s only got the eye on two potential competitors.
The Breathe Again star revealed during a chat with Missy Elliott for Interview magazine that organisers Timbaland and Swizz Beatz had been in touch, telling the rapper: “Yeah, I can’t.”
She explained: “I’m like, ‘It would have to be me, Mariah [Carey] or Mary J. [Blige] or something.’ Us girls from the ’90s.”
Neither Mariah or Mary has taken part in the series yet, which has featured performances from Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle, Brandy and Monica, and Alicia Keys and John Legend.
The discussion between the pair comes after they collaborated on Toni’s 10th album, Spell My Name, which dropped last month.
In addition to the new record, the Hit The Freeway star teased she plans to follow Mariah Carey’s lead and re-issue her back catalogue on vinyl in the near future.
