Tom Aspaul has unveiled the title song from his new album ‘Cabin Fever‘.
The third LP from the singer-songwriter is “inspired by a weekend away in the Stockholm archipelago during Midsommar”, he revealed in a post on social media.
“It was the second day of our trip, a beautiful sunny day, not a cloud in the sky,” continued the Kiss It singer. “We were on an isolated island, sharing a red timber cabin in the middle of nowhere. […] At around 10am that morning, wearing our flower crowns, we’d decided to enhance the situation with a little hallucinogenic help. By midday, the effects had fully taken hold and it wasn’t pretty.
“I lost sense of time, space, ego, self – everything just went into oblivion. It was harrowing and completely foolish of us to think we could remain in control. This part of the story I regret. However, as reality began to return, things began to mellow and become more manageable. This is where Cabin Fever was born.”
Over the next two days, they “exchanged stories from our lives, some good, some bad – most we’d never shared before”, he recalled, before continuing: “At one point, the host invited us for a sauna. We were not in any fit state to sit in a steaming hot room, I could barely breathe as it was.
“Suddenly I was having flashbacks of my first trip to the gay bathhouse in Amsterdam the year before. It was visceral. The harsh demands on my body. The initial shame of it all followed by the thrill. Cabin Fever. Pulled in many directions by men, hallucinations, friends, strangers, the heat, the steam.
“I hope you enjoy this ride!”
