Lynval Golding – star of The Specials and Fun Boy Three – shared a special message with No Doubt ahead of the band’s reunion at Coachella.
Gwen Stefani and co. took to the stage over the weekend (April 13-14) for the first time in nine years for a career-spanning set, with Golding sharing some words of encouragement from backstage, in a message to the camera.
“I can tell you one thing, right – I know exactly how they’re feeling right now,” he shared, before explaining that it had previously taken his five years to get The Specials back together
“And my God, what an emotional time that was. When we hit the stage that first night, it was incredible.
“So I know when these guys go on the tears are gonna be falling through happiness and joy and love. And I just wish them so well – it’s gonna be a killer night. The guys… wow! What can I say? So pleased to be here tonight celebrating with them.”
Signing off the message, shared by No Doubt on social media, he sent his “love and respect” to the Spiderwebs hitmakers.
In the caption, No Doubt wrote: “Our first gig together in 9 years! Legend @lynvalgolding of @thespecials shares some profound and heartfelt words before we hit the stage at @coachella Weekend One.”

The Just A Girl hitmakers will play shows across two weekends at the festival this month, with Gwen recently admitting that she’s “open” to more gigs with the band.
Despite there being no additional dates in the calendar, Gwen shared: “Well, I don’t have a crystal ball. Most things have surprised me in life. One of the things I’ve learned is to be present in the moment and try to absorb what’s happening around me instead of looking ahead.”
“[Coachella is] going to be a really nice bow to tie on the relationship, because we were kids [when we met].
“I already know what it’s going to feel like because we’re just so in sync when we’re onstage. It’s going to feel like riding a bike again. We’re going to be laughing, and we’re going to look at each other and go, ‘Oh my gosh — there you are’.”
While Gwen admitted the group’s reunion has been “a long time coming” and “something that we were going to do”, she remained uncertain about making new music together as it would mean “leaving [her] family”.
She continued: “And if I didn’t come home with a song, I’d be like, ‘Oh my God, I’m such a loser – I didn’t have dinner with my family, and I didn’t write a song. I wasted an entire day of my life trying to be in No Doubt again’.”
