The Killers have returned to the top of the UK Albums Chart with ‘Rebel Diamonds’.
The latest best-of from Brandon Flowers and co. – celebrating their 20th anniversary with 20 songs – joins ‘Hot Fuss’ (2004), ‘Sam’s Town’ (2006), ‘Day & Age’ (2008), ‘Battle Born’ (2012), ‘Wonderful Wonderful’ (2017), ‘Imploding the Mirage’ (2020) and ‘Pressure Machine’ (2021) as their latest No. 1.
In doing so it surpasses their first greatest hits, ‘Direct Hits’ (2013), which peaked at No. 5.
‘Rebel Diamonds’ also claims the top spot on this week’s Official Vinyl Albums Chart.
“Thanks UK for getting us to #1 and @officialcharts for the award!” tweeted the band alongside a selfie of Brandon with his OfficialCharts trophy.
The Killers now tie with Oasis, Led Zeppelin, R.E.M., Stereophonics and Westlife on the ranking of acts with the most Official UK No. 1 albums to their name, with eight apiece.
In a review of the album, RETROPOP said ‘Rebel Diamonds’ is “packed with hits” but that it “comes across more as a substitute for the record that fell through than a wholehearted celebration of the group’s success to date”.
In support of the album, the group will embark on a UK tour next summer, with Glaswegian band Travis will be joining them as the opening act for the shows.
