Steps almost made their Glastonbury debut with a performance of Tragedy with Barry Gibb in 2017.
The group topped the charts back in 1998 with their cover of Bee Gees’ classic hit and planned to join forces with the trio’s sole surviving member for a one-off performance.
However, the collaboration never came into fruition due to the “logistical nightmare” of Lisa Scott-Lee living in Dubai, according to Ian ‘H’ Watkins.
“It never happened,” he lamented, according to Daily Mirror, but Claire Richards hasn’t given up hope of performing at the annual extravaganza and is eyeing a slot at the 2022 event.
“Next year would be perfect, our 25th anniversary,” she says of the first Glastonbury since 2019. “That would be something else.”
Earlier this year, the group admitted they’d love to make their festival debut while celebrating the milestone, with Lisa Scott-Lee hinting: “We’ve never really done festivals. I’d love to do one so maybe we will get a chance to put on our own. Who knows!”
The group recently dropped their seventh LP ‘What The Future Holds Pt. 2’, featuring the singles Heartbreak in this City (feat Michelle Visage), Take Me For a Ride and The Slightest Touch.
In a review of the album, Retro Pop said ‘What The Future Holds Pt. 2’ is packed with “wall-to-wall pop precision” and “paves the way for the band’s 25th anniversary celebrations in 2022”.
