Melanie C has revealed Spice Girls won’t be playing Glastonbury this year.
The group had long been rumoured to be performing during the Sunday afternoon Legends slot at the Worthy Farm event, with reports suggesting Victoria Beckham could rejoin the fold for the show.
But in a new interview, Melanie has addressed the claims and insisted that she, Emma Bunton, Mel B and Geri Horner won’t be appearing after all.
“It’s the question I hate the most, because the answer is as disappointing to me as it is to Spice Girls fans,” she admitted (via The Sun).
“We would love to do Glasto. It just doesn’t fit with the current plan with the girls.”
However, she isn’t ruling out an appearance in the future. “We do want to get back on stage – everything is up in the air,” Melanie added.
Last year, the hitmaker performed a lively DJ set at the festival’s William’s Green stage and later joined Blossoms during their Other Stage set for a performance of Spice Up Your Life.
Frontman Tom Ogden said: “Since it’s technically the 50th anniversary, we thought we’d do something a little bit special, Do we have any Spice Girls fans in the house? OK would you please welcome to the stage Melanie C aka Sporty Spice.”
As the Wannabe legend took her spot, Tom asked her: “Right are we gonna do it? Excuse my attempt at the moves, but you’ve got it.”
Around that time, she told the BBC of a potential Spice Girls reunion at the festival: “It’s the dream, the absolute dream, yeah, we would love to do it. You know what, the girls and I, we have chatted about it.
“You know, it’s the biggest stage in the world, we have the best festival in the world right here.”
Asked whether Victoria Beckham could rejoin the band for the set, she replied: “Hmm, I have a good feeling.”
