Shed Seven have debuted atop the UK Albums Chart with their latest LP ‘A Matter Of Time’.
Having taken the lead early in this week’s race, the Britpop outfit beat off streaming competition from the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd to secure the pole position.
It marks the band’s highest-charting LP of their 30-year career and their first-ever No. 1 placement. Previously, 1996’s ‘A Maximum High’ and their 2017 comeback ‘Instant Pleasures’ gave the group their highest studio album peaks at No. 8, while the 1999 hits compilation ‘Going For Gold’ did one better at No. 7.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be No. 1 on the Official Albums Chart with ‘A Matter of Time’,” they told OfficialCharts. “It’s also our 30th anniversary. What better way to start proceedings? We’re just getting started! Thanks to everyone for their support over the years, and especially for buying this record.
“It’s much appreciated – we shall see you on the road!”
In a review of the album, RETROPOP called ‘A Matter Of Time’ “without question their strongest, most assured work since ‘A Maximum High’ (1996)” and hailed Shed Seven as “one of the finest and most enduring acts of the Britpop generation”.
