Richard Branson is determined to host the first live gig in space.
The Virgin founder left the planet on his Virgin Galactic space-plane earlier this month, beating Amazon founder Jeff Bezos by nine days.
And he’s determined to return with a cohort of A-list stars in tow, with sources telling the Daily Star a suborbital concert is being “seriously proposed”.
They said: “What would make more impact than having Paul McCartney perform Across The Universe to the watching world?
“Or Elton John sing Rocket Man? The pay-per-view rights alone would be worth a fortune.”
Astronaut Chris Hadfield recorded himself singing David Bowie’s Space Oddity on the International Space Station in 2013, and experts believe there is no technical reason why a full-scale performance wouldn’t be possible.
Although the show would be livestreamed for the moment, Branson is already plotting commercial flights into space, with Virgin Galactic expected to launch one more test flight before expanding.
The Virgin Records mogul has always had a fascination with space, and previously admitted he “always dreamed of building a hotel on the moon”.
