The production team behind New York Times/Hulu documentary ‘Framing Britney Spears’ are reportedly working on a similar programme about Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake’s infamous Super Bowl performance.

According to the New York Times’ Page Six gossip column, Left/Right TV is planning to follow up the special, which sent shockwaves globally with its exploration of the Gimme More star’s conservatorship, by examining the 2004 incident, in which Janet’s barely concealed breast was exposed on live TV.

A source said, “It’s going to be all about the fallout and the suits who f**ked over Janet [at] Viacom,” the company that owned MTV — which produced the halftime show — and CBS, which broadcast the game.

“They’re reaching out to everyone who was involved: dancers, stylists, directors. Everyone.”

Justin appeared in ‘Framing Britney Spears’ and, after dating Britney, the show suggested he spun a misogynistic narrative about their breakup, which occurred shortly before the Toxic star’s public breakdown.

And in the new programme, producers apparently plan to explore how Janet’s NFL wardrobe malfunction is believed to have boosted his career while stunting hers.

It’s unclear whether Janet and Justin, who famously tore off part of the “Rhythm Nation” singer’s top and exposed her breast during the performance, will participate in the film.

“They did the Britney doc without her, and there’s been more interest in the Super Bowl since that documentary premiered and Justin apologized to [Britney and Janet recently],” the source said.

Meanwhile, an insider close to the Mirrors star insists he was never contacted about the Britney documentary, adding, “This is unfortunately about the 10th one of these, but hopefully they include all sides.”

In ‘Framing Britney Spears’, Justin is seen crafting a story suggesting she had cheated on him and then fuelling the rumour with his music video for Cry Me a River.

Following its airing, Justin apologised for his roles in both controversies, writing on Instagram: “I’ve seen the messages, tags, comments, and concerns [on social media] and I want to respond.

I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right

“I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism.”

Further details of the show have yet to be confirmed.

Janet is reportedly planning to mark 40 years in music with a new documentary, which apparently has the working title ‘JANET’, set to debut on screens in 2022.

Meanwhile, a new Britney Spears documentary – titled ‘The Battle for Britney: Fans, Cash and a Conservatorship‘ – is set to debut on the BBC May 1.
