The new Michael Jackson big screen biopic is already smashing box office records.
Following its release last Thursday (April 24), the film has achieved the largest ever box office opening for a music biopic, taking in $217million (£160million) globally, and $97million (£71million) in the US (via Variety).
The figues beat those of 2015’s ‘Straight Outta Compton’ ($60million/£44million), about the rise and fall of hip-hop group N.W.A, and Freddie Mercury‘s 2018 biopic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ ($51million/£37million).
Starring Jaafar Jackson – the son of Jermaine Jackson and nephew of the late King of Pop – the movie also earned the second highest debut of 2026 so far, behind ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’.
