Mark Ronson landed a big name collaboration with Paul McCartney after refusing to accept payment for a DJ set at his wedding.
The producer was behind the decks at the former The Beatles star’s wedding to third wife Nancy Shevell in 2011, but wouldn’t be paid in cash for the gig.
Instead, he asked Paul to feature on future music, which later appeared on the music icon’s 2013 effort ‘New’.
“I said, ‘I can’t possibly charge you, but maybe one day down the road, you could come and bless some song I have with an amazing bass part’,” Mark told Radio Times.
And it was at Paul’s second wedding reception in London that the Hey Jude star raised the topic of a joint project once more.
“I was in the toilet washing my hands and he comes in and says, ‘Hey, we should get together like you said’,” he recalled.
“‘I’m working on a new record, come down to my place in the countryside.’”
Mark added: “And that’s how it happened!”Mark produced New, the lead track from Paul’s 16th solo LP, along with album cut Alligator.
