Latto invited Mariah Carey on stage for a performance of Big Energy during the 2022 BET Awards.
The pair hit the stage for a rendition of their remix collaboration – which blends Mariah’s Fantasy and Latto’s Big Energy – both of which sample Tom Tom Club’s 1981 song Genius of Love.
During the performance, Latto opened the song before introducing Mariah, who belted out one of her signature high notes from behind a screen, before stepping into the spotlight.
As confetti rained down at the end of the track, Latto presented Mariah with a bouquet of flowers.
During the ceremony, Latto scooped the prize for Best New Artist, shooting down the recent Roe v Wade ruling and speaking about winning her first award.
“It’s giving boss b**ch, thank you, God, thank you, mom, I know you watching, thank you to my team…. it’s giving pro-choice. It’s never giving a man policing my body,” she said.
“I said I wasn’t gone y’all. I’m so grateful if you know me if you know me and my story, it’s been a long time coming. I’m so appreciative, my first award and it’s my first award by Black Entertainment Television, period!”
