Mariah Carey looks to have new music on the way.
The diva opened up about her upcoming material during an interview on ‘Good Morning America’ ahead of her US ‘Merry Christmas One And All’ tour.
“I’ve been working the past three or four weeks on just writing new songs,” she shared. “Yesterday we were in the studio working on something with a choir, working on a new song. So it’s exciting.”
The Vision Of Love star released her most recent studio album, ‘Caution’, in 2018. Two years later, ‘The Rarities’ (2020) collected outtakes and B-sides from the star’s 30-year career.
In the years since, she’s focussed largely on the festive season with an array of TV specials and music releases, including the Khalid and Kirk Franklin collaboration, Fall In Love At Christmas.
Having performed a limited run of Christmas shows last year, Mariah is going one step further this year. “Last year we didn’t go, like, across the country,” she said. “So this year we’re doing that.”
Set to feature classics from her two festive collections, the showpiece will no doubt be the global chart-topping All I Want For Christmas Is You, of which she recalled its origins during the interview.
“I was working on it by myself… on this little Casio keyboard and writing down words,” she remembered, “and thinking about, ‘What do I think of at Christmas? What do I love? What do I want? What do I dream of?’”
