Madonna has hit back at Instagram for taking down her latest posts.
The Queen of Pop has never shied away from shocking with her provocative posts, but her latest offering prompted the site to remove her pictures altogether.
On Thanksgiving, the Erotica hitmaker reposted a photo series of her laying in bed and claimed moderators of the platform took the original series down as her nipple was exposed.
“I’m reposting photographs Instagram took down without warning or notification… The reason they gave my management that does not handle my account was that a small portion of my nipple was exposed,” she wrote beneath the new post, in which her nipple is covered by a heart emoji.
“It is still astounding to me that we live in a culture that allows every inch of a woman’s body to be shown except a nipple,” she continued. “As if that is the only part of a woman’s anatomy that could be sexualized.”
Insisting nipples should not be censored because they can be used to “nourish a baby,” Madonna went on to insist she’s “giving thanks” after enduring four decades of “censorship, sexism, ageism, and misogyny.”
“Perfectly timed with the lies we have been raised to believe about the pilgrims peacefully breaking bread with the Native American Indians when they landed on Plymouth Rock!
“God bless America,” she concluded, with the hashtag: “Artists are here to disturb the peace.”
Madonna recently released her ‘Madame X’ concert film, which features 48 on stage performers and was captured during her six-night residency in Lisbon, Portugal – where she also recorded part of her 2019 LP.
Alongside the film, Madonna dropped a live album featuring tracks from the performance.
In a review of the record, Retro Pop said ‘Madame X (Music From The Theater Xperience)’ “captures the ‘Madame X’ Tour and reaffirms that she is and remains at the top of her game”.
