Lady Gaga has shared new details of her upcoming studio album, describing the project as “true chaos”.
The seventh album from the Stupid Love singer is due in February 2025, with the LP set to feature lead single Disease, which is out now.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Gaga – who is set to headline next year’s Coachella – said the song “felt like a way into the chaos of the album, which is kind of exercises in chaos – different sides of who I am as a person”.
“To me, there’s some kind of chaos in all of the ways we try to analyse ourselves,” she explained. “Disease is the beginning of that, and it started with this little voice on my shoulder saying, ‘There’s no more tears to cry, I heard you begging for life’, and that uncomfortable feeling that we can sometimes have when the voice in our head is not pleasant.”
Adding that she was “trying to push as much sound as possible” with the album, the Poker Face star shared her intent to capture the feeling of struggling “to see the light” through the music.
“There’s other moments where it’s all about love, and it’s super dreamy,” she added. “That, to me, is true chaos. There are times when it’s hard to see the light, but I think sometimes what makes inner chaos harder is when you sometimes get a glimpse of the sun, because you’re like, ‘Man, I wish the sun would shine all the time’, and then it reminds you of what you’re missing.
“So the album has all of that. It’s like a full experience.”
Gaga recently opened up about her new record, teasing: “The pop album is nothing like ‘Chromatica’. It’s a completely different record. I don’t know that I’m even ready to talk about it yet, but it’s coming out soon, and I will.
“What I would say is, it’s all for me. It’s meant to be ingested as a time in my life. And I’m also really excited about this idea that I don’t have to adhere to an era if I don’t want to. I can have a few going at once.
“That feels unhinged and more like me or Harley. Or whoever.”
Earlier this year, Gaga hinted towards her seventh studio album while celebrating her 38th birthday, writing in a post on Instagram: “I feel like my heart is bursting for my own health and MUSIC. I am writing some of my best music.
“I’ve been writing pop songs since I was a little girl [and] I can’t believe I still get to do what I love. This year will be an important and meaningful year for us I know.
“Music changes people lives im so honored I get to be a part of that in this life. [sic],” the Born This Way singer added.
