Kym Sims is working on new music for her first album in three decades.
The house star released her debut ‘Too Blind To See It’ back in 1992 but, after a string of hit singles, a follow-up never materialised.
Speaking in the August 2022 issue of Retro Pop while celebrating her 30th anniversary, Kym reveals she’s back in the studio laying down new tracks.
“Just in the recent couple of years, I decided to get back into it,” she shares. “My best friend Thomas Arambula wrote some songs – I didn’t even know he could write – and he said, ‘Kym, come on, you got to do this, you got to!’.
“So that’s where I am now. I’ve recorded some new stuff and I’m planning on coming over [to the UK] in the next month or so to record and to do some dates as well.
“We’ll record some more, so there could very well be an album,” she adds.
While she’s working on original material, Kym is also considering recording her own version of CeCe Peniston’s Keep On Walkin’ – which she originally intended to include on her debut.
Of the track going to CeCe, she adds: “It wasn’t planned that way. I didn’t plan it that way. I guess they were shopping the music – I know CeCe had Finally out and she was doing really well. I’m assuming, because I never got the memo. I’m still waiting for the memo 30 later…
“I didn’t know until I heard it on the radio – I thought it was for my album, but it didn’t go in that direction.”
However, Kym maintains: The positive side was CeCe killed it and I give her kudos for that. So at the end of the day, it worked out for everybody.”
