Kylie Minogue just landed her first UK Top 40 hit in almost a decade with Padam Padam – and it looks like the only way is up!
The lead single from her upcoming 16th album, ‘Tension’, debuted at No. 26 in Friday’s Singles Chart and according to first look at the midweeks, she’s set to climb even higher.
Data from the Official Charts Company shows Padam Padam at No. 18, giving Kylie her first Top 20 entry on the Singles Chart since Into The Blue reached No. 12 in 2014.
The news coincides with the Aussie star’s 55th birthday, on which she shared a video on social media thanking fans for supporting her latest release.
“I just wanted to say thank you so, so much for all your birthday messages and the Padam reaction and the love,” she beamed. “It’s been an incredible week topped off by it being my birthday today and I can’t thank you enough. My heart is bursting with joy.”
Padam Padam is one of 11 tracks on ‘Tension’ – alongside previous release 10 out of 10 with Oliver Heldens – of which Kylie says: “I started this album with an open mind and a blank page. Unlike my last two albums there wasn’t a ‘theme’, it was about finding the heart or the fun or the fantasy of that moment and always trying to service the song.
“I wanted to celebrate each song’s individuality and to dive into that freedom. I would say it’s a blend of personal reflection, club abandon and melancholic high.”
For the LP, the pop icon has worked with a number of producers, with seven of the tracks being produced and co-written with her long-time collaborators, Biff Stannard and Duck Blackwell.
Discussing the recording process, Kylie adds: “I loved being back in the studio with my collaborators but was also able to benefit from remote recording, which we have all got used to – my mobile studio never left my side for a year and a half!
“The album is a mix of songs I have written and songs which really spoke to me. Making this album helped me navigate challenging times and celebrate the now. I hope it accompanies listeners on their own journeys and becomes part of their story.”
