Katy Perry is all about forgiving and forgetting as she closes out a tough chapter on her latest single ‘Watch It Burn’.
Due Thursday (June 25) via Capitol Records, the track is inspired by her breakup with Orlando Bloom last year after almost a decade together.
Perry – who shares daughter Daisy Dove with Bloom, and is now dating former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau – sings on the pop-rock anthem: ‘You know I gave and I gave / Now I’m giving up, there’s nothing more you can take.
‘I’m going to try and forgive and forget / Light a cigarette and watch it burn.’
The couple broke off their engagement in July 2025, months after the ‘Bandaids‘ singer released her seventh album, ‘143’, which celebrated their relationship.
Speaking on Justin Tranter’s ‘Unfamous’ podcast, Perry explained how the song and its accompanying video find her “wrestling with [her] darkness” and making a “conscious decision” to step into the light.
“I don’t typically feel like a victim. You can hear it in my songs. I don’t resonate with that. But last year was pretty tough, and it would have been easy for me to fall into that weird victim triangle,” she shared.
