Kate Bush is thrilled by the recent success of her classic hit single Running Up That Hill.
The track has proven popular with viewers of season four of ‘Stranger Things’, after it featured in the opening episode of the Netflix series, along with future instalments associated with the character of Max Mayfield, portrayed by Sadie Sink.
Streams of the song have increased by 153 per cent following the debut of the series in May, with the track re-entering the UK Top 10 and Spotify calling it “the biggest gainer on the Global Spotify chart”.

In response, the pop icon issued a rare statement, sharing her “excitement” that young fans are discovering her music.
“You might’ve heard that the first part of the fantastic, gripping new series of Stranger Things has recently been released on Netflix,” she wrote on her official website.
“It features the song, ‘Running Up That Hill’ which is being given a whole new lease of life by the young fans who love the show – I love it too!”
The hitmaker continued: “Because of this, ‘Running Up That Hill’ is charting around the world and has entered the UK chart at No. 8. It’s all really exciting!
“Thanks very much to everyone who has supported the song. I wait with bated breath for the rest of the series in July. Best wishes, Kate.”
It was recently reported that the Hounds of Love star had given permission for ‘Stranger Things’ to use the track because she’s a fan of the series.
Her publisher Wendy Crowley explained: “Kate Bush is selective when it comes to licensing her music and because of that, we made sure to get script pages and footage for her to review so she could see exactly how the song would be used.”
Off the back of the series, the track reached a new peak of No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart, following a closely-fought battle with Harry Styles. In response, the pop icon issued another statement, beaming: “How utterly brilliant!
“It’s hard to take in the speed at which this has all been happening since the release of the first part of the Stranger Things new series. So many young people who love the show, discovering the song for the first time.
“The response to Running Up That Hill is something that has had its own energy and volition. A direct relationship between the shows and their audience and one that has stood completely outside of the music business. We’ve all been astounded to watch the track explode!
“Thanks so much to everyone who has supported the song and a really special thank you to the Duffer Brothers for creating something with such heart.”
