Ricky Wilson is ditching his usual pop rock sound in favour of an album aimed at young ears.
The Kaiser Chiefs frontman was working on a novel for children but, when the songwriter couldn’t resist writing in rhyme, he ended up putting the narrative to music.
He tells The Sun: “I’ve written a children’s record, which I don’t think many people have
“I started writing a book because I was enjoying the freedom of not having to think about going on tour.
“I thought: ‘I’m going to write a fantastic novel’. Writing a novel is hard. I noticed it started to rhyme and it turned into songs.
“Now I’ve written a load of songs for kids that are really good. It’s all demoed and I’m very excited about it.”
And while Ricky is still going strong with the group, which returned to the charts in 2019 with seventh LP ‘Duck’, he’s particularly excited about his latest venture.
“I don’t know when it’s coming out – it’s with two publishers at the moment,” he beams. “It’s exciting, like being signed again.”
Kaiser Chiefs formed in 2000 as Parva and released their first album ‘22’ in 2003. That same year they underwent a name change and returned in 2005 with ‘Employment’, featuring the massive hit I Predict a Riot.
And in addition to focusing on his own project, Ricky is also working on music with other artists, including Peter Andre, who recently revealed the pair penned “a great song together”.
“As my new album is well under way, it’s nice to get some familiar faces and great songwriters to collaborate with,” he said. “Last week I spent the day in the studio with Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson and we’ve written a great song together.”
