Joni Mitchell made a surprise appearance with Brandi Carlile at Newport Folk Festival over the weekend.
The music legend took the stage for a her first full musical set in over two decades, featuring cuts from across her six-decade career, including classics such as Both Sides Now and A Case Of You.
In footage shared by fans online, the pair are seen performing from elaborate seats on the stage, with Joni showcasing her iconic vocals, which remain as rich as on her final album, 2007’s ‘Shine’.
It marks her second appearance at the three-day festival since 1968, which took place in Newport, Rhode Island.
Earlier this year, Joni made an appearance at the MusiCares’ 2022 Person of the Year gala, where she was feted by Brandi, Beck, and Cyndi Lauper, among others.
However, her previous musical performance took place in 2013, following which she suffered a brain aneurysm in 2015 and has been on a journey of recovery since.
