Madonna and Earth, Wind & Fire songwriter Jon Lind has died.

The musician’s death was confirmed by his attorney Jeremy Rosen in a statement to Variety, following a two-year battle with cancer.

“The songwriting community lost a great songwriter and a beautiful soul in Jon Lind, who leaves a legacy of iconic songs both as a songwriter and supremely talented A&R man,” said the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). 

“The ASCAP family mourns his loss but his humor, his music and his wonderfully generous spirit live in our hearts.”

Best known for writing Earth, Wind & Fire‘s 1979 hit Boogie Wonderland and Madonna‘s 1985 classic Crazy For You’, he also worked with heavy-hitters including Cher, The Temptations and others.

He went on to collaborate with Vanessa Williams on her 1992 single Save The Best For Last, earning a Grammy nomination for Song Of The Year, before he became the Senior Vice President and head of A&R for Hollywood Records. 

During his time with the company, he worked with stars including Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and the Jonas Brothers.

Lind is survived by his wife Susan, their two daughters, two two step-children and three grandchildren.
