After almost two decades away from the charts, Jamelia is finally ready to release new music later this year.
The singer – who released her debut single, So High, in 1999 and scored her UK Top 5 breakthrough with Money the following year – told Hits Radio she’s been working on fresh material at the suggestion of her daughter.
“Absolutely, I’ve been in the studio,” she confirmed. “At the end of last year my eldest daughter was just like, ‘You know, Mummy, I just need to know, what are you doing? Why are you not releasing music?’
“I was like, ‘I don’t know. Maybe I’ll go back into the studio’.”
Admitting she’s “absolutely loved” being back in the studio, the Superstar hitmaker continued: “At the beginning of this year I went back in, and I was like, ‘Maybe she’s right.’
“I’ve absolutely loved it and I’m gearing up to release some music this year.”
With a fresh perspective, the Thank You star – who signed with Capitol Records when she was just 15 years old – added: “I think making music at this point in my life… I’m 44, so to bring my wisdom and life experience has been incredible.”
