Girls Aloud’s plans to reunite for the group’s 20th anniversary have been put on hold as Sarah Harding battles advanced breast cancer, Nadine Coyle has confirmed.
The Call The Shots band was formed on ‘Popstars: The Rivals’ in 2002, and went on to release five albums in five years between 2003 and 2008, with an impressive string of twenty consecutive Top 10 singles in the UK.
Nadine, Sarah, Cheryl Tweedy, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh called time on the group following their 10th-anniversary greatest hits collection, ‘Ten’, and its subsequent tour – but a decade later, they were considering giving it another go.
Speaking on Sink The Pink’s Pop Tarts Instagram Live series, Nadine confirmed the reunion has been put on the back burner for now, as the girls rally around Sarah.
“I would love to be like, ‘Yes, this is what we’re doing’. At the minute, it’s very much thinking about Sarah, being there for Sarah.
“It’s a really unfortunate time for her and the whole thing is like, ‘Come on, come on’, because then that could be the priority – talking about, ‘Should we do a tour? Should we do something?’. Instead we’re worried about Sarah.
“We’re just focusing everything there. That is the main priority.”
Sarah revealed she’d been diagnosed with breast cancer last August, shortly after the girls all reconnected ahead of a potential reunion.
On March 18, Sarah will release her autobiography, ‘Hear Me Out’, and Nadine previously admitted she can’t wait to relive the “fun” the girls enjoyed together in their heyday.
“We had so much fun in Girls Aloud,” smiled the Insatiable star. “Many of the stories of our wild times together are in her book.”
And despite the setbacks, she’s adamant that Girls Aloud will mark the occasion in 2022.
“I’m excited about the anniversary,” she shared. “If it feels right, I’m sure we’ll make something happen.”
