Gary Numan is revisiting his early recordings for a new limited edition 7” singles box set.
‘The Singles Collection 1978–1983’ contains 15 7” singles from the star’s Tubeway Army years and initial solo endeavours.
Included are That’s Too Bad and Are ‘Friends’ Electric?, plus his first solo hit Cars and follow-up releases Complex, We Are Glass and more.
Each single is pressed on translucent coloured vinyl, and comes boxed in a bespoke, white vinyl wrapped DJ case, complete with laser foiled details, chrome corner caps, latch and handle.
An extensive 64-page tri-color booklet completes the set and contains front and back sleeve images, notes, recording and original release information for each single, plus and archival images.
The box set, released November 5, is limited to 2000 numbered copies worldwide and available to pre-order now.
Gary returned earlier this year with his 18th album ‘Intruder’, which hit No. 2 on the UK charts and was met with critical acclaim.
In a review, Retro Pop called the record, “a testament to his legacy as a figurehead and pioneer of electronic music.”
And speaking to us ahead of the album release, Gary insisted he’ll continue to push forward with new music, insisting, “I f**king hate these people that have one hit and then 30 years later they’re still singing it. And they never bothered to do anything else.
“If you want to have a long career, you have to earn it. You have to keep doing something that’s worthwhile, and you must not rely on blind faith in your audience.
“I know a lot of people do, especially when it gets to the latter stages of their career – where I am now – people tend to go a bit bland and middle of the road, and just churn out things that they know people want.
“For me, that’s not not an option at all, which is why I get so stressed about it. I’m only interested in what I can do that I’ve not done before. Or what I can do better than what I’ve done before.”
