Gary Kemp will only reunite with his Spandau Ballet bandmates if original frontman Tony Hadley returns too.
The singer quit the band in 2017, telling fans that, “Due to circumstances beyond my control… I am no longer a member of the band Spandau Ballet.”
While the intimate details surrounding the split remain unknown, the group attempted to continue with new lead singer Ross William Wild – which Gary admitted just didn’t work.
“We tried to do it with a different singer a year ago – I didn’t enjoy it, I don’t think it works for us all,” he told Radio Times magazine.
The star spoke to the publication while promoting his and brother Martin’s new mockumentary The Kemps: All True, which will air on BBC2 this week.
Reflecting on the possibility of a future reunion, Gary insisted: “If everyone decided to do it, I’d do it. I’m not trying to stop anyone.
“It’s got to be with Tony singing or not at all. Really, like it always has been, the ball’s in Tony’s court.”
Martin previously expressed hope that the group would reunite with Tony for a special NHS fundraising concert, following the coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, the vocalist is pushing ahead with his solo career, and recently released his brand new summer single, Obvious.
