Duran Duran’s set at British Summer Time Hyde Park has been cancelled as the London event gets called off due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The Rio hitmakers, who hosted a Facebook watch party featuring some of their classic videos for fans yesterday, announced the sad news on social media, admitting: “We are truly disappointed to have to make this announcement but appreciate everyone’s understanding that this is the responsible thing to do.”

They added: “Please stay safe and continue to look after yourselves and each other.”

Information regarding ticket refunds, or possible exchange for the 2021 event, will be available from May 6th. It has yet to be confirmed whether or not Duran Duran will return in 2021.

Announcing the cancellation of the eighth instalment of the festival, which was scheduled to take place from July 3rd to July 5th, and then July 10th to July 12th, organisers said in a statement: “In addition to the government rightly enforcing a prolonged period of social isolation, we would not want to place any extra strain on the emergency services, who we are lucky enough to have working alongside us at our events.  

“We have the utmost respect for them and wish to express our admiration for their dedication and professionalism, which is proving so vital at this time,” they continued. “We look forward to welcoming you back in 2021 and will be in touch about plans soon.”

Little Mix, Nile Rogers and Chic, Taylor Swift, and Gwen Stefani were among the pop acts also slated to perform at the festival.
