Duran Duran will receive the Spirit of Yuri’s Night Award for the band’s Apollo 11 50th Anniversary tribute concert last July.
Nick Rhodes will accept the prize during a live stream on Saturday, which was set up by the organisation to celebrate the power of Space to bring hope for humankind amid the coronavirus pandemic. A public event had previously been planned.
“Nick will be accepting the “Spirit of Yuri’s Night” award on behalf of the band in acknowledgement of the group’s influence on the style and aesthetics of space and the future,” the Rio hitmakers said on Twitter, announcing the news.
The group’s concert, held at the Rocket Garden at the Kennedy Space Center visitor complex in Florida, featured a choreographed light show from Studio Drift, including 300 drones, alongside Duran Duran’s iconic hits.
Bob Weir, founding member of Grateful Dead, will also appear during the web cast, along with several NASA astronauts. The even is expected to last a couple of hours. It begins 12:00 am UK time.

Yuri’s Night is a non-profit organisation that brings people together every year for a global celebration of April 12, 1961 – the day the first human flew to space. Its mission is to showcase inspiration of space as a catalyst for global transformation.
