Swedish pop superstar Darin returns with his new holiday single What’s Christmas Anyway.
Following the release of the tender ballad Holding Me More, the single is co-written by Grammy-nominated hitmaker Jörgen Elofsson, best known for his work with Kelly Clarkson, Celine Dion and Westlife.
Speaking about the tune, Darin says: “I’ve always wanted to write a Christmas song. Christmas can be such an amazing holiday but also very stressful and lonely for a lot of people, so maybe those who feel that way will be able to relate to this one.
“At the end of the day, who doesn’t want it to be wonderful, beautiful, incredible and magical? And if not, What’s Christmas Anyway?”
The single marks Darin and Jorgen’s first time working together since his 2006 track Homeless, which was later covered by Leona Lewis.
We recently caught up with Darin about his new music, with the singer-songwriter admitting recent global events gave him “a lot of time to think about things and that made me open up to this new style that I have”.
“What I’m doing now feels very natural,” he tells Retro Pop. “It very much represents the person I am today.
“The way I express myself is more colourful and more happy.”
