Confidence Man were caught out after taking their stage names from tombstones in their Australian hometown.
The group – fronted by Sugar Bones and Janet Planet – have always performed under alternate monikers, with the vocalists revealing their names “just came out of us”.
However, the same can’t be said for musicians Clarence McGuffie and Reggie Goodchild, with Sugar admitting their alter egos “might have come off tombstones”.
“We were walking around a graveyard one day and stumbled upon these names,” he tells the July 2022 edition of Retro Pop while on the road in support of their latest album ‘Tilt’. “I think it was out in one of our hometowns, out in rural Queensland.”
That’s not all: “I’m pretty sure the original Reggie Goodchild’s daughter got in contact with Reggie.
“She said, apparently, Reggie Goodchild, the original, was a real party dog and he’d be stoked to know that he’s now the synth player in Confidence Man,” he laughs.
